Religion

The Department of Religion provides a critical perspective on the enduring values and standards of all cultures in order to prepare students for living, thinking, and working responsibly in a diverse world. As a student in the religion department, you will be challenged to study how cultures around the world have derived the ultimate meaning of religion. What Makes Huntingdon College’s Religion Department Unique?

Huntingdon College is a college of the United Methodist Church. This means that all the higher education resources of the United Methodist Church are at the student’s disposal. Religion is not only an area of study, it is active participation in life experiences, such as campus ministries, mission work, leading worship, and building a community of faith.

Internships

A wide variety of internships are available to religion majors. Area churches hire Huntingdon College students to assist with youth, children, and adult ministries.

Ministerial/Theological Study

Students contemplating theological study may choose any field for their major work and are encouraged to undertake a broad cultural preparation, choosing courses that will help them develop communication skills, an understanding of human nature and values, and creative thinking. They should consider the following subjects: language and literature; history, non-Western cultures as well as European; natural science; psychology; the fine arts; and religious studies. Huntingdon College, in cooperation with the United Methodist Church, offers tuition assistance to Methodist students who are preparing for careers in ministry. Information on these opportunities may be obtained from the Office of Admission and Financial Aid. Students interested in seminary should consult with any faculty member of the department.
