LAGRANGE, Ga.—The Huntingdon men’s basketball team fell in
its final Great South Athletic Conference regular-season game of the
year, 66-62, to LaGrange on Thursday.
With the loss, the Hawks fell to 11-12 on the season and 2-4 in
league play, while the Panthers improved to 8-17 on the year and 2-4 in
the GSAC. As a result, the Hawks will now enter the upcoming league
tournament as the No. 4 seed and will face either Maryville or
Piedmont, depending on which school wins the head-to-head contest this
weekend.
Junior Deshaun Williams led the Hawks with 16 points, while fellow
junior Ephraim Hudson added 14 points. Senior Heath Miller led the team
with six rebounds, while senior Chris Roberts and junior John Sloan
each had a pair of steals.
Williams scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, but the
Hawks were outscored 44-38 in the period, which proved to be the
difference.
In the half, LaGrange converted 55 percent of its shots, hitting
11-of-20 from the floor, but also attempted 25 free throws, of which it
hit 20.
For the game, the Panthers knocked down 27-of-38 shots from the
charity stripe, while the Hawks attempted just 16 for the game.
Huntingdon committed just 13 turnovers, while forcing 18 from the
Panthers.
Joe Cromwell led LaGrange with 17 points, while Nic Whitfield added 16 points.
Huntingdon will return to action on Saturday, when it travels to Pensacola, Fla., to take on Pensacola Christian at 7:30 p.m.
