MONTGOMERY, Ala.—The Huntingdon baseball team swept a
doubleheader from Blackburn College on Saturday, taking game one 13-0
and game two 19-0, at Neal Posey Field.
With the sweep, the Hawks improved to 16-4 on the season and have
now won eight straight games. The Beavers fell to 1-8 on the year.
In the opener, senior Chad Green drove in five runs, while senior
Shawn Bezwiechin and sophomore Chad Baxley each added two RBIs to lead
the Hawks.
On the mound, junior Sam Griffin kept the Beavers in check, allowing
just two hits in 5.0 innings of work, while striking out eight. Fellow
junior Ryan Payne closed the door with 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.
Nick Cronin had two of the three hits for Blackburn. Jacob
Hainsfurther tossed all six innings, allowing 14 hits and 13 runs, 10
earned, while striking out six.
In the nightcap, senior Kyle Eller drove in three runs and five
other players drove in two apiece, as the Hawks posted their second
straight shutout in the series.
Senior Bryant Hall finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while fellow senior Josh Bennefield scored a team-high three runs.
Sophomore John Rice picked up his second victory of the year,
tossing 4.1 innings, scattering three hits, while striking out five in
his first outing since Feb. 27 against Arcadia. Freshmen Evan Agnew and
Lucas Haynes allowed just one hit in 2.2 innings of combined scoreless
relief, while striking out five.
The two squads will conclude the series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
