MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Huntingdon senior Josh Bennefield finished a
perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, but Emory pounded out 15 hits in a 12-5
defeat of the Hawks on Sunday at Neal Posey Field.
With the loss, the Hawks end their regular season with a 27-12 record
and will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Great South Athletic
Conference Tournament, hosted by Piedmont. Huntingdon will take on
top-seed LaGrange on Friday, April 23 at 2 p.m. at the Loudermilk
Baseball Complex.
Bennefield also added a walk as he reached base all five times he was
in the batters’ box on the afternoon. He posted a pair of doubles,
giving him 11 on the season, and scored two runs.
Senior Bryant Hall added two hits and a RBI, while fellow senior
Chris Knight drove in two runs.
Senior Scott Holloway (5-4) took the loss for the Hawks, tossing 3.0
innings and allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out three.
Matthew Katten earned the victory for Emory, throwing 6.0 innings of
nine-hit ball, striking out three to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Six Eagles (17-19) finished with two hits, led by Kevin O’Connell,
who finished 2-for-5 with a RBI and three runs scored. Dan Molnar and
Jake Eisenberg each added two runs batted in.
