MONTGOMERY,
Ala. – After leading 23-22 at the half, the Huntingdon College
women’s basketball team dropped its season-opening contest to
Millsaps College, 61-49, at Roland Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Although Huntingdon's bench recorded 17 points to Millsaps' 3, the
Majors outscored the Lady Hawks 39-26 in the second half for the
victory.
Leading
the way for the Lady Hawks was Chalise Hopkins, who scored 13 points
with seven boards and two steals. Whitney Toole, Melissa Wallace,
LaTarial Williams, and LaTerial Williams added 6 points each in the
loss.
For
the game, the Majors held a 41-34 advantage on the glass. Millsaps
converted 41.2 percent of its shots, hitting 21-of-51, while the Lady
Hawks finished 20-of-59 (33.9 percent).
The
Majors were led by Shante Morton with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Huntingdon
(0-1) will travel to Pensacola Christian on Tuesday. Tip off is set
for 7:30 p.m.
