MONTGOMERY,
Ala. ---- The Huntingdon College women’s basketball team fell 57-29
against Franklin College on Wednesday morning in the opening game of
the Huntingdon Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. The Lady Hawks trailed
24-19 at the half, but struggled scoring in the second half of the
game.
For
the game, Franklin held a 53-39 advantage on the glass. The Grizzlies
converted 38.3 percent of its shots, hitting 23-of-60, while the Lady
Hawks finished 9-of-51 (17.6 percent).
Junior
LaTerial Williams led the team with 8 points and four steals. Senior
Kayla Northington added five points, while senior Ashton Salter paced
the team with 7 rebounds in the loss.
Franklin
(7-3) was led by Sarah Condra with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Kasey
Dollens, Traci Lippold, and Brittney Wilson each contributed 9 points
in the victory.
The
Lady Hawks' (3-3, GSAC 1-0) next game is against Martin Methodist
College on Thursday, Dec. 30, in the final game of the Huntingdon
Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Roland Arena. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
In
the second game of the Huntingdon Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, Martin
Methodist College outscored Faulkner University 106-83. The RedHawks
shot an impressive 62.7 percent in the victory, compared to the Lady
Eagles 38.5 percent.
Misericordia
University won the last game of the day, 62-53, over Bryan College.
The final day of the Huntingdon Coaches vs. Cancer Classic will begin
at noon on Thursday, Dec. 30, with Misericordia playing Franklin.
Faulkner will take on Bryan at 2 p.m., before the Lady Hawks wrap up
the classic at 4 p.m. against Martin Methodist.
