WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- Freshman Raven
Prater was named the Most Valuable Player of the 23rd
Annual Piedmont Classic Tournament, after the Huntingdon College
women's basketball junior varsity team won three straight games by at
least 11 points. The tournament took place on January 6-8th
at Piedmont Baptist College in Winston-Salem, N.C.
“I'm very proud of the way our girls
performed in the tournament, especially against varsity competition.
This type of development is very beneficial to our team for the
future,” said head coach Buzz Phillips.
Freshman Samantha Wesson was named to
the All-Tournament team, after the Lady Hawks averaged scoring over
66 points per game and held opponents to an average of only 42 points
per game.
Huntingdon opened up the tournament
with a 68-44 victory over Caldwell Tech on Thursday, Jan. 6. On
Friday, Jan. 7, the Lady Hawks recorded it's largest margin of
victory, 69-42, over Free Will College. In the final game, Huntingdon
defeated host team Piedmont Baptist College, 63-52 for the
championship.
The Lady Hawks Junior Varsity teams'
next game is against Judson College on Monday, Feb. 14. Tip-off is
set for 6 p.m.
