MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon running back Trevor Manuel
wasn’t a one-man show in Saturday’s 38-20 win over 11th-ranked
Wittenberg.
But Manuel definitely did his part as the Hawks knocked off
a Top-15 team for the second time in three games. Manuel finished with 152
yards rushing, 236 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns to help beat the
Tigers.
The Monroeville native is this week’s ALFA
Insurance® Student-Athlete of the Week.
“It’s an honor to represent my team with this award,” Manuel
said. “The guys on this team are working together and it takes all of us to be
successful. I didn’t do anything by myself in that game. The success we had on
offense was because the offensive line did its job and the receivers and backs did
our jobs. It takes everyone to make it happen.”
Manuel scored his first touchdown on a 5-yard run in the
first quarter. His next three touchdowns helped put the game away. Leading
14-13 with less than three minutes to play in the first half, Manuel scored
twice in less than two minutes (on a 68-yard pass from Neal Posey and a 10-yard
pass from Posey) to give Huntingdon a 28-13 lead at the half.
The fourth touchdown, a 24-yard run late in the third
quarter, made it 35-13. The touchdown was Manuel’s 20th career
rushing touchdown and tied Alex Baronich for the Huntingdon career record.
ALFA is
pleased to recognize Manuel and all Huntingdon student-athletes for their hard
work and accomplishments throughout the 2011-2012 season.
