Health Insurance
All students enrolled in twelve credit hours or more at Huntingdon College are required to have health insurance as protection against injury and illness. This requirement may be satisfied through the Student Health Insurance Plan sponsored by the College or through proof of coverage by a private health insurance provider.
We recognize the risks that students with no health insurance face. The financial and physical burden from accident or illness may force one to prematurely end his/her academic career. Therefore to ensure that all students have a plan to meet unexpected and potentially heavy expenses of hospitalization and other medical treatments, the College requires all full-time students to be covered by health insurance. Students enrolled in 6 to 11 hours are also able to voluntarily enroll in this insurance program.
The cost of the Student Health Insurance Plan $637.00 per year and is included on your student account bill. As in the past, participation in the plan is required for all students unless you have an approved existing plan, in which case you must complete the waiver form indicating other insurance coverage is in effect. The waiver form must be completed online by following the link below before the deadline of September 5, 2008, in order to avoid being charged for the non-refundable premium. Your student account will be automatically charged, and you will be enrolled in the student health insurance plan until the waiver form is received. ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE COVERED BY THIS PLAN.
The Student Health Insurance Plan provides coverage for injury or sickness up to $50,000 per incident with a $100 deductible for in-network providers and a $200 deductible for out-of-network providers. The plan pays 80% of preferred provider rates in-network and 60% of usual and customary charges out-of-network. United Healthcare has an extensive provider network in Montgomery and throughout Alabama. The plan provides coverage for both in- and out-patient hospital treatments, ambulance and emergency services, plus prescription drug benefits up to $500 per year.
The plan is underwritten by United Healthcare Insurance Co. and is based on policy 2008-39-76. For further details of the coverage, including costs, exclusions, any reductions or limitations, and the terms under which the policy may be continued in force, please refer to www.uhcsr.com.
