Why Huntingdon?

Our goal is your success. To that end, Huntingdon’s science curriculum offers these advantages:

• Small classes allow teachers to know you well. Even in your first semester, you will know and be known.
• A broad-based curriculum covers all of the classical areas of the sciences. In addition, you can focus studies toward your career goal.
• If your goal is medical school, you will work with a special adviser to prepare for the professional school admission process.
• Critical thinking is built into Huntingdon’s core courses, as well as into all of your science courses.
• Perhaps most importantly, graduate with the Huntingdon advantage: advising from faculty mentors who know you well and career planning and placement assistance from the Center for Career and Vocation.
• Historic Bellingrath Hall houses Huntingdon’s science laboratories and classrooms, while road trips and regional travel/study take you far beyond the classroom.

Science in Action

At Huntingdon, you could work with DNA in the lab, scrounge through swamps for salamanders, and talk about the immune system over lunch with professors. In these ways, Huntingdon faculty challenge you to learn through:

• Lab research beginning your first semester
• Field research
• Marine science research at Dauphin Island Sea Lab
• Internships with the FBI, hospitals, primate labs, research facilities, and veterinary clinics, among other placements
• Teacher Candidate clinical experiences in at least two classroom settings (if you’re interested in teaching)
• Science-based clubs and the Beta Beta Beta honor society
• The Hobbs Honors Program

Facilities

Huntingdon’s science laboratories and classrooms are housed in historic Bellingrath Hall, which features spacious labs filled with light and advanced instrumentation. Field trips and research take advantage of Alabama’s diverse natural habitats and may offer glimpses of a number of rare and endangered species. The College’s membership in the Marine Environmental Sciences Consortium allows for a minor in Marine Science. Road trips and regional travel/study experiences are part of Huntingdon’s biological science programs.
