A Day in the Life of a Huntingdon Hawk: Tora Cayetano ‘25
Montgomery, Ala. – Tora Cayetano ’25 is a music education major from Sharpsburg, Georgia. She has journaled her Friday, February 9, day in the life of a Huntingdon student.
“6 a.m.: I turn on some jams and get up to start my morning routine and do some yoga before a long day. Today, I have Choir Day and pep band for the double-header basketball game that I am helping out with/ performing at.
8 a.m.: I go to Smith Hall to start setting up for choir day with cNAfME (collegiate National Association for Music Educators). Choir Day is when high schools from surrounding areas come to learn a new song and sing with the Huntingdon choir. Today, Wetumpka’s Choir, Marbury’s Choir, and a few high school choir students from Florida will join us. I’m really excited to see how this goes!
3:30 p.m.: Finally, Choir Day is over, but it was sooo much fun!!! I love learning new songs and singing with new people! Aside from our ending performance, my favorite part of Choir Day was when some high school students would randomly burst into song and other students would join in if they knew it. (Join choir! 10/10 experience). Since I have time before pep band call time, I’m going to work on my literary genre essay. It’s due tonight and hopefully, I can finish it on time.
4:30 p.m.: We are eating pizza in the band room and setting up the pep band stage for the basketball game. I’m betting on wins for both teams tonight! Plus, I’m finally starting to understand basketball after a year of pep band (If you ever saw me looking lost and confused, no you didn’t…).
9:00 p.m.: I get so stressed out at basketball games. I get a little too into it, but I love playing for them! Our teams played good games tonight! I’m now heading to Smith to finish my essay, study a score of music I’m conducting for the Wetumpka Pops community band, and get some practice in.
11:30 p.m.: I finished my essay and am heading back to the dorm to unwind and get ready for bed. I’m about to crash as soon as my head hits the pillow, but that ends another day as a music education major at Huntingdon College.
