A Day in the Life of a Huntingdon Hawk: Blake Smith ’25
Montgomery, AL – Blake Smith is a senior accounting major from Macon, Georgia. He is a Huntingdon Ambassador, the SGA President, a member of the CCV Student Council, in the Outdoors Club, a First College leadership team member at First Baptist Church Montgomery, and on the Huntingdon football team. Blake is clearly a busy Hawk this semester leading the student body on and off the field! Blake took some time on September 10 to give us a typical day in his life at Huntingdon.
“My alarm went off at 7:40 this morning. I took a quick shower and got ready for the day. I had to put on business casual clothes for the SGA meeting at lunch. I read my Bible for a little bit and then headed to breakfast.
In the Huntingdon dining hall, I had my usual breakfast of grits, potatoes, eggs, and bacon. (If they have French toast sticks, I really enjoy those too!)
After breakfast, at 8:45 a.m. I went to President Leigh’s office to discuss the agenda for tomorrow’s presidents meeting, a meeting where the President of SGA meets with all the presidents of clubs and organizations on campus. While I was in his office, I had a chance to see designs of the new pool, to be located behind Jackson Home. I was shocked how big it is going to be, and I think it will make a great addition to campus!
Around 9:30 a.m. I made my way over to the library to get prepared for a test review in my accounting information systems class with Dr. Clark. I used one of the upstairs study rooms to review. I always enjoy how quiet those rooms are when I need to focus.
I left the library to go to Dr. Clark’s class at 11:00 a.m. The main topic we discussed for the review was an open-response question at the end of the test that involves identifying risks within a given business and then putting controls in place to mitigate those risks.
After class, I had enough time to enjoy taco Tuesday in the DH before the SGA meeting at 12:30 p.m. in the Stallworth Dining Room. At the SGA meeting, we had one bill for a blowup movie screen, and we had several other conversations about events for Fright Week, October 28-31.
After the SGA meeting, I went to Jackson Home to the SGA office on the 2nd floor for my officer hours. This is a time for me to work on anything SGA related and for any students to come meet with me. SGA senators can also come to meet and talk about bills and ideas for future meetings. Today, I emailed Judicial Board Chief, Arial Dixon ‘25, about coming to next week’s SGA meeting to swear in the new senior and freshman senators. I also reviewed my agenda for tomorrow’s president’s meeting. We are going to discuss funding for clubs and organizations on campus as well as the Presidents’ Health and Wellness Initiative.
After my SGA work, I had to go back to my house and change clothes for football practice. I went to the locker room and got my things together and then stopped by Coach Turk‘s office at 4:30 p.m. for a meeting before practice at 5:30 p.m.
Football practice ended at 7:45 p.m. and I went back to the DH for chicken tender Tuesday. I enjoyed dinner with my roommates then walked to the house to hangout.
At 10:00 p.m. I took a shower, laid out my stuff for tomorrow, and went to sleep.”
