CCV Expands Career Closet
Montgomery, AL – Last year, the Center for Career and Vocation (CCV) worked with the Small Group Communication class to create the CCV Career Closet. Donations were gathered from the Huntingdon family to assist students with appropriate business attire as they interview for graduate schools, internships, and jobs. The Career Closet was housed in a closet inside the CCV office. From generous donations, the clothing options quickly outgrew the original home, making it difficult to organize and allow students to see the options.
In December, the Director for the CCV, Sherry Leigh Lacey Farquhar, worked with the College to utilize a larger room on the second floor of Jackson Home to create a more expansive and dedicated Career Closet. The room includes new organization of styles and sizes on clothing racks and shelves. The new layout is much easier for students to look through the garments.
When asked about the Career Closet and its new expanded home, the Director stated, “I am excited to offer our students the opportunity to find business casual and business professional clothing at no cost in a more organized space. Having the ‘right outfit’ for a job or internship interview is important in making a great first impression, but even more so, for having confidence in yourself. It is my hope that students will grow and feel more confident in themselves which ultimately allows for more future opportunities and success on campus, in the workplace, and in our community.”
Students can schedule an appointment to visit the closet by emailing ccv@hawks.huntingdon.edu.
If members of the Huntingdon family have gently used professional attire to donate, please contact the CCV at ccv@hawks.huntingdon.edu.
