Huntingdon College Students Rally to Thank Teachers: Donation Drive Brings Smiles to MCS Teachers
Montgomery, AL – Four Huntingdon College students in the Small Group Communications class held a donation drive as a class assignment for the twenty-six teachers at the small non-profit school, Montgomery Christian School, to show their appreciation for the teacher’s hard work and service. MCS is a local non-profit organization that provides a private school experience to students that may otherwise not be able to afford this type of education. Funding for the students and programs relies heavily on scholarships and donations.
The students promoted their donation drive across Huntingdon’s campus leading up to the event. The donation drive was held at the heart of campus, in Flowers Hall. For one week, donations including snacks, self-care items, pens & markers, cleaning supplies, classroom games, copy paper, and hand-written notes of encouragement were received given by students, faculty, and staff.
Allison Jackson, 5th grade teacher and partnership coordinator from MCS commented on the experience, “The Huntingdon students were a delight to work with on the project. Each student was kind, respectful, and wonderful to be around. I absolutely loved getting to know them and meeting with them and telling them about our school and mission. They were active listeners and engaged in conversations that we had. They had fantastic questions and caring hearts and made each member of our staff feel loved and appreciated. We were having a rough week and God put this group of students together because He knew that we would need them. I cannot say enough kind things about them and their hearts. Thank you again so much! Hawk ’em!”
The donation campaign was a success. The group collected enough items to provide 26 personalized notes and self-care bags for each teacher and classroom and a general gift of additional items to the school.
The students that held the Teacher Appreciation Donation Drive were Callie Shiver ‘26, Emmah Mayo ‘27, Sam Barrel ‘25, and Rob Vickers ‘26. The purpose of the project was to work together as a group to successfully execute a support project for the Montgomery Christian School. The students decided on a plan to show appreciation and support with the donor drive for the teachers at MCS that are putting a dream to a reality for the students and their families.
