  • Heather Tabor Hartley ‘19 and husband, Blake, welcomed a son, Archie William Hartley in August. 2024.
  • Bethany Martin Hooper ‘13 and husband, Joshua, welcomed a son, James Grant Hooper, in June 2024.
  • James Malone ‘13 and wife, Kathryn, welcomed a son, Dawson Grant Malone, in July 2024.

Graduate School Graduations

  • Ryan Meadows ’21 completed a master’s of science in education degree at Jacksonville State University in the summer of 2024.

Retirements/Promotions/Honors/General News

  • Anna Boyd ‘17 was selected as the 2024-2024 Ford’s Theater National Oratory Fellow.  She is one of seven teachers from across the country to be selected. Anna is currently a teacher at Brewer Middle School in Greenwood, SC.
  • Walter Cooper ‘60 was named the second-ever Cornerstone Award at the NCS4 15th Annual National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition Award Luncheon in July 2024.
  • Austin Dorberth ‘19 completed his master’s degree in strength and conditioning. He has accepted a job at Millbrook Middle School in Millbrook, AL as the 7th grade science teacher and a coach for football, baseball, and wrestling.
  • Sam Granderson ‘22 has joined the Marquette Sports Law Review as a journal member for the 2024-2025 year.
  • Timothy McCormack ‘08 is the Assistant Athletic Director and Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Piedmont University.  He is starting the season with a goal of winning his 100th career collegiate victory as a women’s soccer coach.  He has also earned his A License from the US Soccer Coaching Education Department and is pursuing his master coach diploma along with his UEFA Coaching License from the European Federation.
  • Samantha Mosier ‘08 is currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science for the Master of Public Administration program at East Carolina University. She also serves as Associate Director for the university’s Water Resources Center. In the past year, Samantha was honored as a 2023 National Science Foundation-Every Page Foundation Ocean Decade Champion. The honor and recognition were made to women working at the “frontier of research and innovation in ocean and coastal resilience” that work in National Science Foundational Coastline and People (CoPe) hubs. As a result of the honor, Dr. Mosier attended the 2024 United Nations Ocean Conference to participate on a panel with other Champions to discuss our research contributions, career challenges, and future opportunities for women in geoscience and coastal resilience research.
  • Coach Hugh “Buzz” Phillips, former Huntingdon College Athletic Director and former coach for the men’s and women’s basketball teams was named to the AISA Hall of Fame. Coach Phillips is currently recognized as the Director of Athletics Emeritus.
  • Jamie Piper ‘04 and Hope Eakins ‘13 were both in attendance at the American Advertising Federation (AAF) District 7 Fall Leadership Conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jamie works for Media Now Interactive as a Regional Sales Coordinator and serves this year as the membership chair for the Mobile Bay Chapter of AAF. Hope is the Digital Marketing Coordinator at AlaCOMP and serves this year as the fundraising chair for the Montgomery Chapter of AAF.
  • Hank Sforzini ‘04, founder of Atlanta-based R. Henry PR, recently celebrated the first anniversary of his award-winning strategic communications agency. With experience across architecture, consumer goods, education, hospitality, legal services, and more, Hank has built a diverse portfolio featuring brands like Cheerwine, Lyft, Toyota, and Coca-Cola. His work has garnered recognition from the Public Relations Society of America, Georgia Chapter, and the American Marketing Association, Atlanta Chapter. Hank earned his bachelor’s in communications and English from Huntingdon and his master’s from Vanderbilt University.

In Memoriam

  • Deidra Jacqueline VanLandingham Christie ‘66 passed away on August 26, 2024.
  • Lady Portis Cunningham died on August 2, 2024, at the age of 99.  Although she was not a Huntingdon alumna, she and her sisters, Jane Cunningham Dunlap and Lucy Cunningham Bond, were faithful friends to the College in memory of their mother, Ladye Portis Cunnigham, who graduated from Huntingdon in 1904.
  • Betty Hay Dill ‘49 passed away on March 20, 2024.
  • Hilda Robison Hunter ‘62 passed away on August 4, 2024.
  • Dorothy Wylie Jones ‘79 passed away on July 30, 2024.
  • Jeffery Jones ‘08 passed away on August 2, 2024.
  • Jean Hay Land ‘50 passed away in August 2024.
  • Dr. Mark Ledbetter, member of the Huntingdon faculty in the 1990s, passed away on July 11, 2024.
  • Clara West Martin ‘62 passed away on August 12, 2024.
  • Dr. Jacob C. Martinson, Jr. ‘54 passed away on August 16, 2024.
  • Claudette Fleming Price ‘68 passed away on August 22, 2024.
  • Morgan T. Self ‘64 passed away on July 6, 2024.
  • Caroline Wilson Slawson died on August 31, 2024. She was a close friend and supporter of Huntingdon College. Her life of wisdom and faith will always be remembered in the Caroline Slawson Campus Commons in the Houghton Memorial Library.
  • Beth Williams ‘72 passed away on August 23, 2024.
  • Betty Greene Wright ‘51 passed away on August 18, 2024.
  • Helen Patricia Yelverton ‘54 passed away on July 25, 2024.
