Dave Borden Honored with Sullivan Award

Montgomery, AL – On Tuesday, October 1, Huntingdon College honored Mr. Dave Borden with the 2024 Mary Mildred Sullivan Award at a luncheon hosted by President Anthony Leigh.

Mr. Borden is a distinguished member of the Huntingdon College Board of Trustees and a dedicated champion of the College. In President Leigh’s remarks, he praised Mr. Borden’s commitment to his faith lived out in his personal life, his patience and wisdom seen in his career and organization memberships, and his heart for others as exampled in his dedication to not only Huntingdon College, but a vast group of organizations and causes that have benefited from his support.

President Leigh stated in the presentation of the award, “Dave Borden’s greatest attribute is the many years he has used his heart for others, rooted in his faith in God, and combined with his brilliance and strategic thinking abilities, to serve this community. Huntingdon College has certainly been the grateful beneficiary of two decades of Dave Borden’s wisdom and service.  As chairman of the finance committee of the Board of Trustees and then four years serving Huntingdon as the chairman of the Huntingdon Board and still today continuing to serve on the Board, Dave asks great questions – tough questions – but they always come from a desire to help the College best serve our students, best serve this community, and to do so with financial prudence and integrity.” The President also personally thanked Mr. Borden in his remarks, “Dave, on behalf of Huntingdon College, there is no question that the spiritual standard of our institution can be judged by your impeccable character, your devotion to God and the wisdom you use in serving others.”

The College is one of 70 institutions in the South authorized to recognize each year one non-student member of the college community with the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award. This award, presented annually, is given to an individual who possess spiritual qualities and noble character that places service before self.

Huntingdon College, grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition of the United Methodist Church, is committed to nurturing growth in faith, wisdom, and service and to graduating individuals prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Founded in 1854, Huntingdon is a coeducational liberal arts college.
