Montgomery, AL – Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Sarah Sours announced the appointment of Dr. Kristine Copping to the role of Associate Dean of Faculty and Professor of Psychology, with primary responsibility for faculty development and online education.
“Dr. Copping has served the college in a number of roles—always with conscientiousness and compassion,” stated Dr. Sours. “She cares deeply about the success and well-being of both her students and her colleagues, making her the ideal person to support our faculty as they in turn support our students. I’m particularly glad to have someone with her research background in the role: we will all rely on her expertise in implicit bias in education to help us ensure that everyone gets to enjoy that sense of belonging that is the hallmark of the Huntingdon experience.”
President Anthony Leigh commented, “I have tremendous respect for Dr. Kristi Copping’s student-centered approach to her work at Huntingdon. Throughout her time at Huntingdon, she has demonstrated brilliance in the classroom and second mile devotion to her students and I am excited to see her serve in this new role of faculty leadership.”
Dr. Copping was previously the Chair of the Huntingdon College Department of Psychology and Criminal Justice, Professor of Psychology. Dr. Copping completed her Ph.D. and master’s degrees at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where she served as a research assistant and instructor. She has published on a variety of topics related to the influence of gender and race on the perceptions of adolescents. Dr. Copping began her Huntingdon career in 2011 as an Assistant Professor of Psychology.
“It is such a privilege to work with a faculty that genuinely wants to make a difference in the lives of our students. We all know that one class, one mentor, can change everything” commented Dr. Copping. “I’m excited to collaborate with my inspirational colleagues, and to work alongside Dr. Sours as she continues to enhance the college environment for us all.”
