Estate Gifts Offer Transformational Impact Beyond Lives of Service
Montgomery, AL – In 2024, Huntingdon College has received four estate gifts totaling over two million dollars from four members of the alumni family. We honor Betty Seymour Perdue ’51, Shirley Thrash Nystrom ’53, Patricia Yelverton ’54, and Elinor Warr Roberts ’57 for their tremendous generosity to Huntingdon College.
President Anthony Leigh commented, “We smile today because these women chose to make a transformational impact on the life of their beloved alma mater. Their special remembrance and celebration of Huntingdon, even after their impactful lives of service, is a gift of a holy and sacred nature. These special alumnae decided in life to honor the home they loved so well after they passed away. These gifts for the Heart of Huntingdon campaign come from ladies who I know had a genuine place in their heart for Huntingdon.”
Betty Seymour Perdue ’51 passed away on January 4, 2024. Betty lived a life of service, devoted to her students and music, as she enjoyed a long career as a musician, teacher, music educator, and arts visionary. Betty was the recipient of the Huntingdon Alumni Achievement Award in 2015.
Shirley Thrash Nystrom ’53 passed away on June 26, 2023. She graduated from Huntingdon College with a degree in mathematics. She was a pioneer in the computer industry, working for IBM on their early mainframe computers. She led a simple life guided by faith and devotion to her family.
Patricia Yelverton ’54 passed away on July 25, 2024. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Patricia was proud to be a member of the Huntingdon centennial class and was a faithful donor to the College Annual Fund.
Elinor Warr Roberts ’57 passed away on July 11, 2023. Elected Miss Loyalty in 1957, Elinor continued her devotion to Huntingdon throughout her life as a class agent, member of the Board of Trustees, the Alumni Board, and the recipient of the Alumni Loyalty Award in 1994. She was a devoted friend to her “girls” from Huntingdon and a loving mother and grandmother.
