Huntingdon College Announces “The Year of the Educator”
Montgomery, AL – On Wednesday, August 7, President Anthony Leigh declared the 2024-2025 academic year as “The Year of the Educator” at Huntingdon College. This year-long celebration will honor Huntingdon’s commitment to prepare the next generation and spotlight the hundreds of Huntingdon alumni who share wisdom in service in their communities as educators.
“Each year, I want to recognize academic programs and our alumni that are making Huntingdon known as one of the South’s premier pre-professional colleges,” stated President Leigh. “Today we have dozens of students in our teacher education program preparing to join hundreds of alumni from across the generations in devoting their lives to serving students. To all of those going back to school as teachers, librarians, and administrators, to the parents that help with homework or volunteer at schools, to educators in churches, to those that work for nonprofits and agencies supporting education, and to our retired educators who have given a lifetime of service, Huntingdon College salutes you. This week I also welcomed back to campus Huntingdon’s extraordinary faculty and celebrate the long, storied history of the men and women who have devoted their lives to teaching at Huntingdon. We are blessed to have excellent educators serving today’s generation of Huntingdon students.”
Dr. Leigh calls on all members of the Huntingdon College community to join him in the year ahead in celebrating those that use their passion and expertise to grow and support students. “Take a few minutes to reach out to those you know who make a difference as educators and offer your encouragement and gratitude for their valuable service.”
Huntingdon College, grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition of the United Methodist Church, is committed to nurturing growth in faith, wisdom, and service and to graduating individuals prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Founded in 1854, Huntingdon is a coeducational liberal arts college.
