Meet Wendy Leigh, First Lady of Huntingdon College
Montgomery, AL – Mrs. Wendy Leigh, wife of President Anthony Leigh, is not a new name to Huntingdon College, but as the first family moves into their new roles, she is happy to share a little more about herself and her plans to support the Huntingdon family.
Wendy was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but spent most of her childhood in Montgomery. She attended Bear Elementary School, Cloverdale Junior High School (now the Huntingdon Cloverdale Campus), and Jefferson Davis High School. After high school graduation, she attended Auburn University and received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and family and child development. She then earned her master’s degree from Berry College in elementary education. In 2022, she completed a twenty-seven-year career in public education serving countless children in the River Region.
Today, Wendy is an active volunteer at church, for her daughter’s school, and with several non-profits including Embrace AL Kids and the Junior League of Montgomery. She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, being outdoors in general, and supporting Carey Mae, Anthony and Wendy’s 7-year-old daughter, in her variety of activities.
Like many people who grew up in the Cloverdale neighborhood or attended Cloverdale School, Wendy has a nostalgia for spending time on the Huntingdon campus and has watched the College expand over the years. “Memories of Cloverdale Junior High School make me smile. It was a wonderful environment, created by fabulous teachers and administrators, supportive parents, and special friends. It thrills me to see the property and facilities being updated, maintained, and put to such great use by the college.”
As President Leigh moves into his new position, Wendy is also taking a more active role in the College and has started to look for opportunities to be involved. “I have already been chatting with the faculty in the College of Education, and we have identified several opportunities that will allow me to support both the students and professors,” shared Wendy. “My experiences in the classroom allowed me to grow my craft in such a way that I have a lot to share with future teachers of every age (K-12) and across multiple subject areas.”
In response to his wife’s excitement for their new roles on campus, President Leigh stated, “Wendy’s support for my work at Huntingdon has been a tremendous asset to me and to the College since we joined the Huntingdon family in 2009. In her professional life, she was a highly acclaimed and respected classroom teacher, and I know that her words of wisdom and encouragement are always welcome to Huntingdon students, particularly those in the teacher education program. She is a great ambassador for Huntingdon in the community, and I’m thankful to share life and the joy of serving Huntingdon College with her.”
Huntingdon College, grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition of the United Methodist Church, is committed to nurturing growth in faith, wisdom, and service and to graduating individuals prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Founded in 1854, Huntingdon is a coeducational liberal arts college.
