Q & A with Carey Mae – Daughter of President Anthony Leigh
Montgomery, AL – Daughter of President Anthony Leigh and his wife, Wendy, Carey Mae Leigh, has been at home on the Huntingdon campus since she was born. The energetic second grader is a fan favorite of Huntingdon students. Whether it is on the sidelines or in the stands at sporting events with her mom and dad, having Saturday brunch in the dining hall, or introducing all her friends to the Huntingdon teacher education majors visiting her school, Carey Mae is a well-known and loved Hawk. With her dad’s new role at the College, HC News has the inside scoop on the first daughter.
How old are you?
CM – “7”
What is your favorite subject in school?
CM – “Art and STEM lab are my favorites. They are fun and awesome. I love to make art and drawings. I like STEM lab just because I like it.”
What activities do you do outside of school?
CM – “I take dance — ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and acro. I auditioned for the company this summer and made the Petite Team. I also take art lessons. I love being a part of the children’s ministry at my church. We are there a lot.”
Can your dad help you with dance? Can he dance?
CM – “No! He dances horribly.”
What do you want to be when you grow up?
CM – “I want to be a teacher because my mom taught for twenty-seven years.”
What sport is your favorite to watch with your dad?
CM – “Football is my favorite. We have a tent at Huntingdon games, and there are cheerleaders. I like half-time because I love sitting on the bench on the field and watching everyone perform.”
What is your favorite thing about the Huntingdon Marching Scarlet and Grey?
CM – “The drums are my favorite. I just like them.”
Where is your favorite place on campus?
CM – “Daddy’s office is my favorite spot.”
What’s your favorite thing about your dad’s new office?
CM – “There is room for more than one cartwheel without kicking the furniture.”
Do you pick out your dad’s bowties?
CM – “No! Never!”
What does your dad do as President? What does his job involve as a college President?
CM – “He works, makes phone calls, has meetings, talks, and gives speeches.”
How much do you love Hank the Hawk?
CM – “Hank is a 98 out of 100. I have to save room for Swoops.” (Carey Mae’s elementary school mascot is Swoops the Eagle).
What is your favorite dining hall meal?
CM – “I like cheese pizza. On Saturday mornings, I like to eat chicken fingers, French toast sticks, and ice cream.”
Which one is your favorite color, Scarlet or Grey?
CM – “I like Scarlet because I am Cardinal at my school, and Grey is boring.”
HC News would like to thank Carey Mae for her honest and insightful answers. Students, when you see this energetic Hawk on campus, be sure to say “hello!”
