Shoffner and Dorman Assume New Roles
Montgomery, Ala. – Huntingdon President J. Cameron West and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Sarah Sours announced new academic leadership roles for Dr. Sara Shoffner and Dr. Lisa Dorman. Shoffner has assumed the position of Dean of Student Academic Success and Director of the Staton Center for Learning Enrichment. Dr. Lisa Dorman has resumed her previous role as Professor of Physical Education and Sports Studies and Director of Student Access Services (504 Coordinator).
“I am tremendously appreciative of the work Dr. Lisa Dorman has accomplished in the Staton Center to implement centralized advising for all students, and to partner with all departments across campus to enhance admission and retention activities,” stated West. “She is internationally recognized in her academic discipline, and she is the great champion for the growing number of students in need of access services. Our physical education students and those receiving accommodations to enhance their success at Huntingdon will continue to be in great hands under Dr. Dorman’s leadership.”
Sours stated, “Dr. Dorman’s wide-ranging skill set and profound dedication to the college’s and her students’ success make her an obvious choice for almost any program or project that needs initiating, implementing, or improving, and she has responded cheerfully and energetically in every role she’s been asked to fill. Student participation in her disciplinary specialty is skyrocketing, and the increasing complexity of ensuring accessible classrooms is demanding her concerted attention. Dr. Dorman has always had a heart for the people who need her most, and she has asked to be able to turn her focused attention to her students—both the ones in her major, and the ones who rely on her considerable expertise in delivering accommodations.”
West expressed great confidence in Shoffner’s ability to lead the Staton Center and deliver the College’s academic success initiatives. “Throughout her tenure at Huntingdon, Dr. Sara Shoffner has been a tremendous advocate for student success. Her background as a former NCAA Division I student-athlete, her interest in all aspects of the Huntingdon experience, and her ability to motivate and inspire students make her uniquely equipped to tackle this new responsibility.”
Sours noted, “Both as a faculty member and as Associate Dean, Dr. Sara Shoffner has been exquisitely attuned to institutional and pedagogical practices that encourage student success. She has formed effective working relationships with other areas of the college, developed extensive connections with community partners, and poured an immense amount of energy into organizing her Presidential Scholars into the best volunteer sports broadcasting team I’ve ever seen.”
The offices for both Dr. Dorman and Dr. Shoffner will be located on the second floor of the Caroline Slawson Campus Commons in the Houghton Memorial Library.
